Thanks to the Disney Channel,
Cheetah Girls 2: When in Spain roars onto the small screen with fun,
music, and positive messages to spare. This made-for-television movie features
the adventures of teen pop sensations, The Cheetah Girls, who prepare for an
international singing competition in Barcelona, Spain.
After a roof-raising
performance to end their junior year of high school, the Cheetah Girls are
surprised to hear some interesting news: Chanel' (Adrienne Bailon)
mother, Juanita (Lori Anne Alter), informs her that they will be spending a
month in Barcelona with Juanita's exotic, wealthy boyfriend, Luc (Abel Folk).
Chanel becomes distraught over the news, fearing that this vacation could lead
Luc to propose to her mother, a development that could tear the Cheetah Girls
apart with a permanent move to Spain. Galleria (Raven-Symoné) worries
about the potential outcome as well, but insists that something will work out.
Shortly before Chanel's
departure, Galleria, Chanel, Dorinda (Sabrina Bryan), and Aquanette (Kiely
Williams) stumble across an advertisement for a singing competition:
Barcelona Festival de Musica de Vira: Nuevas Voces concurso. Chanel, who is
fluent in Spanish, translates the ad and tells the Cheetahs it is for a talent
hunt at The
Barcelona Music Festival. The girls decide they must all accompany Chanel to
Spain and they convince Juanita and Galleria's mother, Dorothea (Lynn
Whitfield), to allow the adventure.
Upon their arrival in Barcelona
the girls find more than just the music competition awaits them. While Galleria
tries to focus the group on preparing for their performance, the other Cheetahs
become preoccupied with exotic distractions. Dorinda begins to fall for a
charming dancer, Joaquin; Chanel latches onto fellow singer and competitor,
Marisol; and Aquanette becomes enamored with Dorothea's long-time
fashion-designer friends. The Cheetah Girls struggle to maintain their
friendship and loyalty to the group while seeking their unique and individual
interests and dealing with the deception served up to them by Marisol's
dominating mother (Kim Manning.)
Cheetah Girls 2: When in Spain
offers a bubbly image of teens growing up and going through transitions. Some
of the scenes portray more mature teen themes, like boy-girl relationships,
responsible choices, loyalty, and values. These themes are portrayed
effectively and in a wholesome light. Messages throughout the movie also center
on the importance of hard work and treating others respectfully. Further the
soundtrack provides clean, meaningful lyrics for all ages with songs like
Cheetah Sisters: "Because we are sisters, we stand together. We make up one
big family. Though we don't look the same, our spots are different, different
colors we make stronger." Cheetah Girls 2: When in Spain is sure to
please kids of all ages. Parents may even catch themselves saying,
"Cheetah-licious!"
