In recent decades, the ubiquity of visual media and the technology
necessary to create it has caused many creative individuals have
become interested in expressing themselves through film; and as a
result, film festivals – many intended for specific audiences – have
sprung up. Unfortunately, many individuals who might be interested
in the films shown at such festivals are unable to attend. Now,
The RE: Collection brings the film festival experience into the
home.
The RE: Collection assembles and presents the films shown at the 2007
San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival.
In a wide variety of genres and with many differing artistic
viewpoints, these creators express their Christian ideals through
film. Movies included range from straightforward documentaries like
A Defense of God’s Law, a dissertation on the Christian
origins of civil society, and The Pushtun, about the ethnic
inhabitants of Afghanistan; through touching interviews like
Joel’s Journey, about one family’s reaction to the news of their
young child’s cancer; to experimental fiction, like the
poetry-tinged morality tale The Photographer, or the
stop-motion futuristic satire Extinct.
There is little content to concern parents in this collection of
films. Some features, like The Photographer and The
Journal, contain some mildly graphic violence, as they tell
stories about the gangster era of the 1920s and the Vietnam War,
respectively; but though some blood is shown, the content these
films is not even as explicit as a typical police drama on broadcast
television.
Though its unapologetically Christian perspective and its
experimental short-feature format may not appeal to every taste,
The RE: Collection is an ideal gift for the committed Christian
of artistic sensibilities, as well as those interested in
avant-garde filmmaking generally. For its artistic quality and
its willingness to present perspectives rarely seen in mainstream
productions,
the Parents Television Council is proud to award The RE:
Collection with the PTC Seal of ApprovalTM.
Because the content of some of the films included may be difficult
for young children to understand, the PTC recommends this DVD for
viewers over age 10.
