Television
is the most influential mode of communication in America. In the
past, it was just a simple, and wonderful, source of family entertainment
and news. But today, good, clean, entertaining television hardly
exists - programs are graphic and very little is left to the
imagination.
The
television network executives and the advertising community need
to hear from YOU! They will continue airing and sponsoring offensive
shows during prime time unless Americans like you talk back and
take a stand on what is being beamed into your home every night.
Remember,
it is also a good idea to contact the networks to applaud them
for airing family-friendly shows. Show SUPPORT for those shows
and urge the networks to air more of that type of program.
What You
can do.....
1. Contact:
It is a violation of Federal law to broadcast obscene or indecent
programming. Obscene speech is not protected by the First Amendment
and cannot be broadcast at any time.
The FCC has
defined broadcast indecency as language or material that, in context,
depicts or describes, in terms patently offensive as measured by
contemporary community standards for the broadcast medium, sexual or
"excretory organs or activities". Do you feel that the
following shows/instances meet these standards? If so, please take a moment today to
file an official complaint
with the FCC.
