PTC Calls Paris Hilton Ad for Carl's Jr./Hardees Ultimate Example of Corporate Irresponsibility
LOS ANGELES – Today, the Parents Television Council (PTC), the nation's most
influential advocacy organization protecting children against sex, violence
and profanity in entertainment, chastised Carl's Jr./Hardees for their
raunchy Spicy Burger television advertisement starring Paris Hilton.
"This blatant sexually charged ad has no place on the public airwaves, and
especially when children are in the audience. Carl's Jr./Hardees need to be
held responsible for marketing their raunchy, sexually graphic ad to
millions of children via broadcast television and at the Carl's Jr./Hardees'
web sites without any restrictions," said L. Brent Bozell, president of the
PTC.
In addition to airing nationally, on May 17, 2005, portions of the
advertisement were aired as part of a feature story on nationally syndicated
Entertainment Tonight, which airs in some markets as early as 7:30 p.m.
"At this crucial time when broadcasters are under increased scrutiny by
millions of parents who are fed up with current television content, we would
think that the awareness would extend to advertisers. Instead, Carl's Jr./Hardees
have done the opposite and are forcing American families to digest their
filth. This is the ultimate example of corporate irresponsibility."
