This organization is really doing excellent work to help clean up the shocking filth and horrible violence on TV. I encourage you to support them as I have. File a Complaint with the FCC about Sex-filled Episode of That '70s Show Dear Friend of the PTC: We've made tremendous strides in the past few weeks to hold broadcasters accountable for the content they beam into our living rooms each and every day. Thanks to your activism we are reclaiming our broadcast airwaves. Unfortunately, the Fox Broadcast Network has chosen to cross the line [again], and we're asking for your help to ensure that they don't get away with flagrant, obnoxious, in-your-face indecency. Last Thursday night Fox aired an episode of the popular That '70s Show that centered on masturbation. The program aired at 8pm Eastern and Pacific Time, and at 7pm in the Central and Mountain Time Zones. Just as concerning as the time of broadcast was the programming that aired adjacent to this show. That '70s Show , one of the highest-rated shows among children and teens, airs right at the beginning of the family hour and serves as a lead-in to American Idol - the highest rated show on TV among 2-11 year-olds and 12-17 year-olds. For Fox to air a program with this content – and at a time when the whole country has a heightened sensitivity to broadcast indecency - is an affront to millions of Americans who, fed-up with broadcasters rubbing this garbage in their faces, have been forced to turn to Congress and to the FCC to enforce compliance with the law. Yet last Thursday night, Fox irresponsibly chose to air an episode of this early-evening, teen-targeted series that centered entirely on the subject of masturbation. According to an article in last Friday morning's San Francisco Chronicle, Fox asked the creator of another teen-targeted program, The O.C., to tone-down the sex on the show. But most weeks That '70s Show is watched by more young children than The O.C…. Why isn't Fox demanding greater responsibility from the creators of That '70s Show? We need your immediate help to flood the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Fox Broadcasting with complaints about this outrageous episode. We will also forward copies of your complaints to the program's sponsors, which are listed below. Since last year, the PTC and its members have hit the FCC with more than 200,000 official complaints. Because of your involvement the FCC is finally - for the first time in its history - cracking down on indecent broadcasts. But we need to keep the pressure on the FCC to punish broadcasters who break the law. More importantly, we need to send a loud and clear signal to Fox and its affiliates that we will not tolerate their efforts to push TV standards into the gutter, particularly at a time when they know young children comprise a large portion of the audience. You can find a detailed synopsis of the offensive content of the March 24 episode of That '70s Show at http://www.parentstv.org/ptc/action/70s/content.htm so you'll know exactly what kind of messages Fox is sending your children. But please be warned, this material may be extremely offensive. Do not allow children to read this synopsis. As soon as you've read it, and if you agree that the material crosses the lines of broadcast decency, please join the Parents Television Council in taking two actions to register your protest: 1. After you've read this email, go to http://www.parentstv.org/ptc/action/70s/main.asp and sign your name to a formal Complaint to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). When you add your name to the FCC Complaint, the PTC will immediately forward it by email to the Washington, DC headquarters of the FCC. 2. MOST IMPORTANT - forward this email to friends, relatives and colleagues in your email address book. Send it to everyone you know who shares your outrage about the foul language, disturbing violence and graphic sexual content that seem to have taken over so much of the TV that young people are watching. It's critically important that you and everyone you forward this message to get your Complaints registered with the FCC. So please go to http://www.parentstv.org/ptc/action/70s/main.asp now to register your Complaint with the FCC. Hopefully, many of them will forward this email also, and your protest will be multiplied many, many times over! Together we can stem the flow of harmful, offensive and undermining filth on TV. With sincere thanks,
