Parents Television
Council Establishes First Washington Chapter
Active Community Leader Charters
Seattle Chapter
LOS ANGELES (March 29, 2010) — The
Parents
Television Council™ (PTC), a
non-partisan education organization advocating
responsible entertainment, announced Peter Wick III as
the director of the Seattle Chapter. An active
volunteer and local business owner, Wick is setting out
to help clean up the airwaves.
As a parent of two, Wick is horrified by
the ubiquitous barrage of adult content on television.
“With young viewers in the audience, advertisers and
broadcasters have to take their responsibility
seriously. Too often, my family and I are assaulted by
adult-themed commercials during family programming time,
along with the escalation of inappropriate content and
violence existing on television today. This lack of
concern for our children’s innocence is truly
disturbing, and needs to change,” said Wick. “I am
proud to be part of the solution with the PTC and I know
that our mission will resonate throughout the
community.”
The Seattle Chapter is the first in the
state of Washington and will be the voice of the PTC in
the community. The chapter will work to educate more
people about the negative impact of sex and violence in
the media through speeches and appearances throughout
the metro area. The chapter will also communicate with
local television affiliates and advertisers to discuss
community standards and will be a source of information
on the latest news and research for parents.
Entertainment is manufactured at a national level, but
local community standards must be the ultimate deciding
factor when determining what is shown and when.
Wick has been a community leader for more
than 25 years, serving on numerous community
organization boards and as a local business owner.
Through his service as an executive on many non-profit
boards including Lutheran Community Services and the
King County Boys and Girls Club, he has worked
diligently to provide opportunities and leadership to
youth and families in his community. Wick has also
started, developed, established, and managed several
successful local businesses from the ground up. Wick
received his bachelor’s degree in economics and
psychology from Washington State University, currently
owns Wick Consulting Group, and also finds time to
volunteer and coach youth sports. Wick was just named
“Volunteer of the Year” by the Edmonds Boys and Girls
Club.
According to PTC President Tim Winter, “The
PTC is built on a foundation of activists like Peter.
Having spent so much time working with and for the youth
of this community, Peter has seen first-hand the impact
of today’s graphic and grotesque programming. We
proudly welcome Seattle, Washington as the newest
chapter and the newest state to join the PTC’s growing
network of chapters.”
