Last Comic Standing on NBC
Parading a slew of comedians,
each with an arsenal of foul language and graphic sexual references, the June 26th
episode of Last Comic Standing on NBC(8:00 p.m. ET), has
definitely earned the title of Worst TV Show of The Week
Unlike previous seasons, in
which the comedians appearing on Last Comic at least attempted to perform
family-friendly acts in this two-hour prime-time block, the floodgates have now
opened to allow coarser language and more adult subject matter.
Perhaps influenced by their Las Vegas surroundings, this
round of semi-finalists at the Paris hotel theater performed sets packed with
references to alcohol, drugs, STDs, prostitution and sex. “I quit drugs. I used
to smoke pot and take Ritalin,” said comedian Alan Hunter. “Then I could focus
really hard on nothing.” Words like “jackass,” “crap,” “hell” and “damn” were
peppered in throughout the acts.
Comedian Jeff Dye said: “If I’m going to do an illegal drug
at the gym, it’s not going to be steroids, it’s going to be Ecstasy.” In the
pretend throes of a Ecstasy-fueled high, Jeff mimes licking weights and feeling
himself as he rubs against Nautilus equipment.
“Christian singing duo” God’s Pottery, two fresh-faced
comedians in bowl haircuts and “Virginity Rocks!” t-shirts, performed an ode
opposing pre-marital intercourse called The Pants Come Off When the Ring Goes
On. Unlike the other comedians, the Brooklyn-based act was clearly a parody
rather than antidote to the otherwise uninterrupted stream of blue acts.
For graphic descriptions of sex and drug use, Last Comic
Standing deserves its designation as Worst TV Show of The Week.
