I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! on NBC

Seriously?  This show is on four nights a week?  NBC must be as desperate for programming as this program’s so-called celebrities are for notoriety.  As prime-time programs go, this one has less questionable content than some others; but given the amount of profanity in the first episode, and the fact that it is airing at 8;00 p.m. ET – the very heart of the Family Hour -- the June 1st series premiere of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! has been named Worst TV Show of the Week.

After a strenuous trek through a Costa Rican jungle, the contestants arrive at their squalid base camp.  Heidi and Spencer Pratt - the pampered, vapid, self-absorbed couple from MTV’s “reality” show The Hills - take one look at the living conditions and immediately regret their decision be part of the show.  “So this is what Hell looks like,” Spencer mutters.  For the other contestants, however, hell is having to put up with Spencer’s immature behavior and desperate need for attention.

Luckily, Spencer and Heidi – Speidi, as the paparazzi have dubbed them – decide that they can’t even stomach one night at the camp.  Spencer calls Ben Silverman, the producer of the show,

and insists, “I'm too rich and I'm too famous to be sitting with these people and cleaning up their [bleeped ‘s***’] in the jungle.  This cast is devaluing our fame right now.  I'm sitting next to VH1 comedians that I've never even seen before.  I'm sitting next to wrestlers. This is just not the show I thought this was gonna be - all celebrities.  Stars of shows get treated like stars. I'm not [bleeped ‘f***ing’] supposed to be cleaning up John Salley's [bleeped ‘s***’] in a bucket, dude.  You've never cleaned up your own [bleeped ‘s***’], let alone take John Salley's [bleeped ‘s***’] to the creek, have you?”  Eventually, the producer manages to coax Speidi back to the camp where they spend the night flopping in a hammock.

The next morning the group notices that Spencer and Heidi are gone.  In the distance they can hear Spencer scream, “Don't you [bleeped ‘f***ing’] touch me.  Get the [bleeped ‘f***’] out of my way!”  Apparently, the couple tries once again to leave.  Assuming that Speidi has left the jungle the group divvies up the couple’s belongings -- only to have them return moments later.  When Spencer sees that the labels he apparently made for his wife’s line of hair products have been ripped off, he launches into a loud tirade.  He smacks the water canteen from Angela’s hand and screams in her face, “Where does it end?  Where does it end?  You're ripping up my wife's [bleeped ‘s***’]!”  Spencer decides to stay in the competition out of spite for his fellow contestants.  “I just really want to stay,” Spencer whispers to Heidi, “to [bleeped ‘f***’] people's lives up and really be the villain of the camp.”

All of this happens within the first hour of the broadcast.

Clearly, given the rash of profanities, this show should be rated TV-14.  Spencer and Heidi have since left the show after just two days in the jungle.  So perhaps the number of expletives will diminish greatly with Speidi gone … or will they?

For foul language I’m a Celebrity…Get Me out of Here has been named Worst TV Show of the Week.
