Dancing with the Stars Performance Results Show
on ABC
By Ally Matteodo
Airing on Wednesday, September
23 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC, the Dancing with the Stars Results Show is
this week’s choice as Best TV Show of the Week. During the course
of this hour-long program, two of the celebrity contestants, singer Macy Gray
and actor Ashley Hamilton, were eliminated. Outside of the elimination, this
results show consisted of an encore performance of the Viennese waltz by Kelly
Osbourne and her partner Louis Van Amstel; a performance by Sean Kingston; the
premiere of Miley Cyrus’ new music video “Party in the U.S.A.;” a musical number
from The Lion King; and a dance tribute to Patrick Swayze.
The highlight of this show
was the tribute to Patrick Swayze. Swayze’s battle against pancreatic cancer
was tenacious and heroic, and his fighting spirit is an inspiration. Moreover,
Swayze’s enduring film, Dirty Dancing, is one of the best dance films of
all time, and his legacy was remembered in the homage the professionals give to
him during this program. First, two dancers performed a lyrical number to
“She’s Like the Wind,” a song from the film that Swayze had actually sung
himself. Following this was another slow-moving, beautiful dance set to
“Unchained Melody” from Swayze’s other hit film, Ghost. Finally, in the
climatic last segment of the number, dancers Cheryl Burke and Tony Dovolani
reenacted a scene from Dirty Dancing, with Cheryl as Baby and Tony in as
Swayze’s part, Johnny Castle. As Cheryl got a running start and flew into
Tony’s arms, and he majestically lifted her, the viewer could not fail to feel
the thrill of this flight through the air and the freedom dance brings us.
Swayze’s disarming smile, engaging manner, and immense talent were well
remembered in this beautiful tribute.
