Based on a beloved book,
Flicka is a film guaranteed to bring out the horse lover in us all.
Katy McLaughlin only has
one thing on her mind—horses. She is so drawn in by them that she often
looses track of time; so much so that she becomes lost in thought and fails
her final exam at the private school she attends. Thankfully, it is the end
of the semester and Katy returns home to Wyoming where her parents (Tim
McGraw and Maria Bello) run a ranch with the help of her older brother,
Howard (Ryan Kwanten).
On Katy's first ride after
her return home she spots a mountain lion in the distance. The big cat
begins to corner her when suddenly, out of nowhere, a wild mustang scares it
away. Returning home, Katy tells her parents of her sightings and begs them
to let her tame the mustang. Her father (Tim McGraw) is adamantly against
it; however, during a mishap he captures the wild horse and pens it in.
It's the beginning of a love affair as Katy sneaks out every night to train
the mustang that she has lovingly named Flicka. One night, Katy is
discovered when she is thrown from Flicka, and her father sells the horse to
the local fair. Devastated by the loss Katy picks herself up, brushes
herself off, and becomes determined to find a way to bring her beloved
Flicka back home.
Though Flicka is a
family film that deals with growing up, responsibility, and family, it is
recommended for those eight and up due to mild language and a few brief
scary scenes.
