show
children
math is
fun and is found all around us. The series follows the young heroes Inez, Jackie, Matt and their
robot cyber-pal Digit (Gilbert Gottfried) on their adventures. They enter
cyberspace with the goal of foiling the mischievous deeds of the evil Hacker
(Christopher Lloyd) as he tries to take over the digital world. Every half-hour
episode sends the young heroes on an adventure driven by a different
mathematical concept. Using only the formidable weapon of brain power, the
heroes use math, problem-solving strategies and logic to successfully defeat
Hacker and save the day. As the kids learn new mathematical concepts, they also
discover that math exists everywhere and is quite fun to use. At the end of each
episode there is a non-animated For Real segment, using real people to
explain real-world problem-solving utilizing the episode’s central math topic of
the day. Cyberchase inspires enthusiasm towards math, science and
computers, and demonstrates how the concepts that appear in the episodes can be
applied to the real world.
Overall Cyberchase is an entertaining
and educational series suitable for ages 5-9. Parents should be aware that there
are villains in every episode and situations of danger do exist, but that overt
violence is not shown. The villain character may be frightening to some younger
viewers.
