Experience
one of the most unbelievable journeys of mankind first-hand -- walking on the
moon.
Presented and narrated by Tom Hanks,
Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon unites the viewer with the
Apollo astronauts, joining them in exploring the lunar surface. The film takes
the viewer through the tedious research and training of space travel and the
experiences of the 12 astronauts who walked the moon. We see the development of
the space suit, from the relatively primitive ones of the 1960's to the
high-tech million dollar suits of today. We see the years spent researching the
Moon's surface and the plotting of landing sites, which gave the astronauts an
area the size of Africa to explore. The viewer walks along the Moon's surface
with past Apollo teams. The film beautifully captures the vast terrain, showing
panoramic views of sweeping canyons and rugged mountains, and the harshness the
astronauts experienced while exploring the desolate planet. We experience what
the 12 astronauts saw, heard, felt, and did. It is one giant leap for mankind's
imagination.
IMAX's Magnificent Desolation
is a great family film, educational and fun for all ages. The procedures and
equipment are broken down in language simple enough for children to understand,
but still engaging for adults. The film draws in the imagination of children and
how they perceive outer space, and concludes by telling children to never stop
dreaming, because without dreams, we would never have reached the Moon.
Because this is both an educational and highly
entertaining film, The Parents Television Council™ has awarded this IMAX
production with its Entertainment Seal of Approval™.
