This movie centers around teenager Sara, who is trying to learn how to make her own decisions. Her father pressures her to perform well at soccer and join a prestigious team, but she feels she is not ready. Sara is worried that boys do not find her attractive, and she is made fun of for being a “jock”. Sara meets a boy, but there is some miscommunication and he thinks she has been spreading rumors about him.

There was no sex depicted in the film, but Sara and her friend pass a note which has the word “penis” on it, but it is obscured, and only the letters “p” and “e” are shown. At the beginning of the movie Sara is shown in her room pushing up her breasts to make them look bigger, which speaks to her anxiety about her looks. Sara is mildly disrespectful to her parents: for example, her mother asks her to brush her teeth but she uses the toothbrush to get mud off of her soccer cleats.

The film emphasized themes such as the importance of setting priorities, making good decisions, and leading a balanced life. Because of its relevance to adolescents, the Parents Television Council is proud to award Her Best Move  the PTC Seal of ApprovalTM. The Parents Television Council recommends Her Best Move for children over the age of 12.
