Mammoths Manny and Ellie, saber-tooth tiger Diego, Sid the sloth and the rest of the Ice Age gang return in this latest installment in the animated series. With Ellie pregnant and Manny preparing for a life of fatherhood, the goofy Sid becomes jealous. Wanting a family of his own, Sid “adopts” three giant eggs – which hatch to reveal young tyrannosauruses! Though his “children” wreak havoc among his Ice Age friends, Sid is thrilled with his new family…until their real mother comes to reclaim them, leading Manny, Ellie and Diego on a dangerous mission to rescue Sid from the dinosaur’s hidden land at the Earth’s center.

There is little content of concern to parents in Ice Age 3. Several gags involve mild sexual innuendo: Sid tries to milk a musk ox, only to be chased away while screaming, “I thought you were a female!”; after the birth of Manny and Ellie’s daughter, Sid exclaims, “It’s a boy!’, and Diego states, “That’s it’s tail”; and while trapped in a giant plant together, Diego remarks, “I feel something tingling,” to which Manny responds, “Don’t say that when you’re pressed up against me.”

Ice Age 3 is replete with crashes, chases and mild peril involving the animals being stalked and chased by dinosaurs, and a large amount of slapstick comedy; but this is really no worse than the “violence” found in old Road Runner cartoons. The film also features a number of gags involving belching, spitting and similar bodily functions: a baby dino swallows another animal and is ordered to “barf it up”; Sid is inhaled up a dinosaur’s nose and sneezed back out, covered in mucus, and the like.

Several positive themes are emphasized in Ice Age 3. Manny’s determination to be a good father and his enthusiasm for starting a family inspires Sid to do the same. Diego, while fearing that times will never be the same with Manny now married and becoming a parent, still remains loyal to his friend, and discovers that family life just brings new adventures.

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is a fun-filled action-comedy sure to entertain children, and with many amusing moments for parents. The Parents Television Council does not recommend Ice Age 3 for children under age seven.
