Murder and attempted rape by heroes |
Set in the 1980s of
an alternate world where Richard Nixon is still president and costumed
superheroes have been part of American society since the 1940s, retired heroes
are being eliminated, beginning with the brutal Comedian. The psychotic
vigilante Rorschach investigates and tries to reassemble the old team of heroes:
the Batman-esque yet impotent Nite Owl; troubled heroine Silk Spectre;
billionaire and “smartest man in the world” Ozymandias; and Dr. Manhattan, whose
godlike powers over energy and matter assure America’s global supremacy. Can the
heroes overcome their own moral failings and uncover the scheme that threaten
the world…or will they, and the world, together fall into ruin?
The PTC does not usually review
R-rated pictures; but because Watchmen can easily be mistaken for “just
another superhero movie,” this warning is appropriate. Although based on a comic
book and set in a universe with costumed superheroes, Watchmen contains
extremely graphic violence, full-frontal nudity, explicit sex, frequent
profanity and greatly disturbing imagery. Parents are strongly cautioned that
the PTC does not recommend this movie for any viewer under age 18.
