This sequel to Night at the
Museum finds former night watchman Larry Daley now a successful businessman
and inventor. Larry is dismayed to learn that his secret friends – the exhibits
at the Natural History Museum, who magically come to life at night – are being
boxed up and shipped to the Smithsonian for storage. But when the evil ancient
pharaoh Kahmunrah is also returned to life with the goal of conquering the
world, Larry is launched on a wild adventure alongside General Custer, Abraham
Lincoln, Amelia Earhart and many others, in a battle to save the world from
Kahmunrah – and his museum exhibit friends from being forgotten.
There is little content of
concern to parents in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.
Larry and Amelia Earhart exchange several kisses, and she accuses Larry of
staring at her “chassis,” while Rodin’s Thinker shows off his muscles for
another statue. Language is limited to a few uses of “damn” and “oh my God.”
There is a large amount of
action in the picture, but little of it rises to the level of violence.
Kahmunrah’s followers threaten Larry with spears, there are several chases
involving airplanes, motorcycles and an octopus. Many of the exhibits crash
through walls and into each other. Larry and the “good” exhibits are chased by
Kahmunrah’s followers including Napoleon and Al Capone, ending in a wild battle
involving swords fights, punches and general mayhem. Larry is also slapped by
Amelia and a pair of monkeys for comic effect.
A delightful, action-filled
romp featuring old-fashioned comedy, romance and thrills (and with characters
that may pique some children’s interest in history), Night at the Museum:
Battle of the Smithsonian is sure to be a fun-filled favorite for families.
The Parents Television Council does not recommend this film for children under
age seven.
