PTC Seal of Approval Winner
Fielder's Choice

By Kristine Looney

The Hallmark Channel's latest movie, Fielder's Choice, chronicles a lonely and obsessed man's transformation into a caring and devoted father. Phillip Fielder is a promising young advertising executive working furiously on a huge presentation when his sister Jill arrives at his door with her son, Zach. Jill asks Phillip to watch Zach for the weekend while she attends an art exhibit in San Diego. Phillip reluctantly agrees, but sours when Zach quickly wreaks havoc on Phillip's organized and precise lifestyle. Phillip looks forward to returning to his normal life until a friend arrives and tells him that Jill has been killed in a car accident. Devastated, Phillip becomes Zach's temporary guardian until a more permanent arrangement can be reached.

Phillip initially has trouble relating to Zach, who has a learning disorder. Phillip's stressful and time consuming job strains their relationship, as Phillip must work incessantly and often puts the needs of his job before the needs of his nephew. Over time, with the help of Phillip's friendly dog, Caesar, and Phillip's ex-girlfriend and neighbor, Holly, Phillip and Zach forge a strong bond of friendship and love. After receiving a promotion and the position of creative director of a large advertising campaign, Phillip realizes he must decide which parts of his life are most important to him.

Fielder's Choice is a movie that is ideal for the entire family. Premiering on Father's Day weekend, this movie captures both the essence of family and the sacrifices that parents often make for betterment of the lives of their children. This movie contains no violence, sex, or foul language. The themes of sacrifice, loyalty, and forgiveness will touch children and parents alike. Children will benefit and learn from the portrayal of loss in the film, as well as the process of managing and overcoming grief. This heartwarming movie will provide great entertainment for the whole family this Father's Day weekend.
