This long-running cartoon focuses on the daily life of a suburban family living in the fictional town of Springfield. Homer, the father, is bumbling and incompetent, while Marge is a loving and patient wife and role model to her children. Marge and Homer’s son Bart is a mischievous underachiever who lacks respect for anyone other than Krusty the Clown, while Lisa, his sister, is a model student and upstanding citizen. Maggie is an infant child who often gets into trouble but just as often accidentally saves the day.
For the most part The Simpsons has been a clean show with mild sexual innuendo and violence. However, over the years, the content has become increasingly more unwholesome. In one recent episode, Homer becomes a successful opera singer with many groupies. A woman offers to be the head of his fan club but is really using the opportunity to try to seduce Homer. At one point she stands in front of Homer and unzips her leather catsuit to reveal her naked body. Nothing is shown from the front, but much is implied. The episode culminates with an assassination attempt on Homer that ends in a shootout with the S.W.A.T. team. Language also seems to be getting more intense with words like “ass” being used more frequently.
The trend continued with the season premiere for the show’s 20th season, in which Marge got a job at an erotic bakery. Though no risqué cakes were actually shown, Marge peeks into a box that holds Dr. Hibbert’s anatomically correct cake. The day-old bin sells stale “wangs.” Patty and Selma sample the new “ass” cake.
The Simpsons is not recommended for viewers under age 14.
