A spin-off of NBC’s Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit deals with police investigations of sex crimes. The show follows Detective Elliot Stabler, a seasoned, slightly jaded veteran of the unit, and his partner, Olivia Benson. The show features the detectives’ difficulties as they try to juggle the emotional toll of the job and the pressures it puts on them.
Due to the nature of the show, nearly every episode of SVU contains violence, sexual dialogue and/or sexual situations. Though the actual crimes are rarely shown, the descriptions of these violent crimes can often be intense, as are the victims’ reactions. Episodes have included scenes of abuse, violence towards women, forced sexual acts, sexual violation and child molestation. Almost every episode includes shots of corpses and autopsy analysis. Foul language has included words such as “bitch,” “bastard,” “hell,” and “damn.”
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is not recommended for viewers under age 18.
