This NBC comedy centers on the friendship between Will Truman and Grace Adler as they help each other cope with careers and relationships. Will is an attorney, and Grace runs her own interior design business. The twist is that Will is a homosexual living with Grace, a heterosexual. Since sexual tension is not an issue, Will and Grace feel very comfortable around each other and have been best friends since college. Jack and Karen round out the cast. The hyperactive Jack is Will’s gay friend and former roommate. Karen is a wealthy alcoholic who ignores her stepchildren and works as Grace’s assistant.
In light of Will & Grace’s basic premise, most of the storylines are sexual, making this series inappropriate for younger viewers. In the season finale last year, Will and Grace were planning to have a baby together, which led to an enormous amount of sexual innuendo and dialogue. Another plotline was Karen’s affair with another man, while her husband was in jail, which was played for laughs. Coarse sexual material, coupled with the show’s frequent foul language (including words such as “ass” and “piss”) has earned Will & Grace a red light rating.
