LAST COMIC STANDING

NBC Tuesday, at 900 ET

 PTC Summary:

Production Companies: NBC Universal Television Studio
Producers: Peter Engel Productions

Hosted by Anthony Clark (Yes, Dear), Last Comic Standing brings the world of late night comedy clubs to prime time television. In this reality series, aspiring comics from around the United States audition for talent scouts (from NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno) and are selected to join the cast of the show and to compete against fellow comics for the title “Last Comic Standing.” Each week the comics perform in front of a live studio audience who vote for their favorite act. The act with the least votes is eliminated from the competition and the show.

The Last Comic Standing competition may be appropriate for a comedy club, but parents are strongly cautioned about this show as it airs in the 9:00 hour of prime time television. Foul language is a primary area of concern for this show. Bleeped obscenities often include the “F-word.” Many comics also push the limits of decency with sexual humor to get a laugh and secure their spot in the competition. For example, 19-year-old Kaitlin Colombo jokes about her homosexual father: “People automatically assume just because my father’s gay that makes me a lesbian. Please, I’m so uncomfortable around another woman’s vagina that I was born cesarean.” And a young female comic jokes about a pedophiliac father: “My dad, it’s weird. I have a real relationship with him. When I was twelve I discovered his stash of porn, which was so disturbing, you know I’m twelve-years-old and… I’m thinking ‘where did he get all of these naked pictures of me.’”

Last Comic Standing is not recommended for children of any age.
