Dr. Gregory House is an unconventional physician. He is a genius diagnostician capable of solving cases that no one else can. His amazing skills are also complemented with an astonishing perception of human nature. With just a quick glimpse at his patients, he knows whether they are hiding something, lying, or if their condition is merely psychosomatic. However, House is also an eccentric and a borderline misanthropist, who has been in severe pain for years and has become addicted to Vicodin. His pain has made him cantankerous and resentful. His social manners are questionable and House shows almost zero tolerance to those patients who complain about trivial issues, lie to skip work, or claim to have a disease not recognized as such by traditional medicine. He is a scientist more interested in diseases than in people, and therefore, he often clashes with bureaucrat Dr. Cuddy, the hospital administrator. Now in the program’s fifth season, House must confront the repressed guilt he feels over the death of his only friend Dr. Wilson’s fiancée Amber and Wilson’s subsequent departure. House, however, has not softened at all, remaining just as acerbic and crass as ever.
Violence, sex and language are frequent problems in this series. In the season opener, House disdains having to treat a feminist patient. “I dated her,” he says. “Well, not really. More metaphorically raped her by having a penis.” House frequently sexually harasses his colleagues by commenting on their personal lives and their appearances. Other sexual content includes, but is not limited to, references to pornography and masturbation. There are often scenes containing medical violence, such as depictions of surgeries and medical procedures. Foul language such as the words “bitch” and “ass” are used in almost every episode.
House is not recommended for viewers under age 18.
