Now in its third season, Ugly Betty continues the story of Betty Suarez, a free-spirited young woman trying to survive in a world of superficial personalities. Working as an assistant at Mode magazine, Betty strives harder than ever to make progress toward her long-term goal of becoming an editor. This season, Betty has moved out of her family’s home and into her own apartment in Manhattan.
Sexual references and innuendo are frequent on Ugly Betty. In one episode, Hilda’s married boyfriend steps out of the shower expecting to surprise Hilda, but instead finds himself naked in front of her father. Because much of the action is situated at a fashion magazine, there are often revealing outfits worn and photo shoots that lead to sexually suggestive comments. Foul language is frequent and harsh, with words like “bitch,” “ass,” “screw,” “and “damn.” Violence is rare but occasionally present; in one episode Alexis pushes Cristina down a set of stairs.
Ugly Betty is not recommended for viewers under age 18.
