In this relationship sitcom, Adam and Jennifer are a recently-engaged young couple living together, while their friends Audrey and Jeff are middle-aged and have been married for over a decade. Adam and Jennifer try to glean advice from Audrey and Jeff about how to work out their future plans as a couple. This season, Adam’s formerly single friend Russell has married Audrey’s annoying friend, Liz, and Jeff and Audrey are awaiting the birth of their first child via surrogate.
Content on this sitcom is decidedly adult. Language used on this series includes “slut,” “damn,” “crap,” “ass,” “hell,” “whore,” and “son of a bitch.” Sexual dialogue is common, with references to spanking, casual sex outside of marriage, threesomes, and Russell's a list of “humorously named sex acts." Violence is not a problem for this series.
Parents should note that Rules stereotypes men as stupid and insensitive, and of marriage as repressive, destructive of individuality, and void of sexual excitement.
Rules of Engagement is not recommended for viewers under age 18.
