Returning for a fourth season, The Good Wife, follows the life of Alicia Florrick, estranged wife of embattled politician, Peter Florrick. Last season Alicia had a brief affair with her boss, Will Gardner, but then she stopped it and at the end of the season tentatively went back with her husband again as he prepares to run for governor. Alicia works for a law firm run by Will, an old law school colleague, and cutthroat litigator Diane Lockhart. Alicia is now a third year associate and is more confident in her job. There is a lot of stress at the firm this year, as they’re going through a bankruptcy and restructuring. Her husband’s campaign manager, Eli Gold, has a herculean task of helping his boss win the party’s nomination against a devious opponent. At home, Alicia’s son Zach and daughter Grace lean on her for support as they try to make sense of the new situation in their family and navigate their teenage years.
Sexual content has increased in frequency and intensity over past seasons. There has been a scene of Alicia receiving oral sex from her husband and a scene depicting her having an orgasm in a clinch with Will. Also, there was a case last season revolving around a woman who hosted a website for men to find women for the sole purpose of committing adultery. This season, one of the firm employees, Kalinda, was shown receiving oral sex in bed with her girlfriend, and later having semi-violent sexual exchanges with her estranged husband. Foul language isn’t used very often, words aired in the series include “ass,” “hell,” “piss,” “damn,” “crap,” and “whore.” Violence has been minor, in the form of flashbacks or crime scene photos. In one episode, a man was shown dead after a stabbing, and in another there was a depiction of a shooting in a convenience store.
The Good Wife is not recommended for viewers under age 18.
