In this sitcom, Michael Strahan plays a recently retired NFL football player who returns home to visit his ailing father. By the end of the first episode, however, it is revealed that Michael’s manager ran off with his money, his brother’s restaurant is failing, and his father is suffering from some vague, as-yet-undiagnosed mental ailment. All the while, Michael constantly bickers with his sharp-tongued wheelchair-bound brother. Luckily, their sassy mother is there to keep the peace, while their crazy dad blurts out random inappropriate comments.
Compared to other Fox shows, Brothers is relatively tame. However, the pilot episode did contain a troubling amount of sexual dialogue. “Coach” – Michael’s father on the show – asks his wife if she wants to “do it” in the living room or the elevator in their home. Coach also offers this non-sequitur: “And another thing, when did men start shaving their wiggly-dos? I walked into the shower the other day and looked like a bunch of giant five-year-olds and that's creepy.” In the second episode, Mike apparently walks in on his brother having sex with a woman on the riding mower in the garage. Language is also problematic, with uses of “hell,” “damn,” and “ass” common. Though the brothers often exchange comic threats of bodily harm, violence is not a problem for the series.
Brothers is not recommended for viewers under age 14.
