Rookie Blue focuses on the lives of five rookie police officers as they balance their personal and professional lives. Andy McNally is the central character of the series. The sexual tension she experiences with her training officer, Sam, only serves to complicate her relationship with Detective Luke Callaghan. Her best friend, Traci Nash, is a single mother who is dating Detective Jerry Barber. Rookies Chris Diaz and department legacy Gail Peck have also begun a relationship but it seems that Chris’ best friend, Dov Epstein, may also have developed feelings fo Gail. The five rookies and their more experienced colleagues fight to keep the streets clean.

Violence, sex, and language are all present in this series. Violence is common on Rookie Blue. While working to catch various criminals, Andy has been shot, held hostage, and attacked by those she seeks to arrest. Dead bodies are also shown on a frequent basis. In one episode, a badly burned corpse was shown in a burned building. Sexual content consists of both depictions and dialogue. In one episode, Detective Luke Callaghan cheats on Andy with an ex-girlfiend, Jo. The two are shown in a hotel room together undressing and sex is implied. Language includes, “hell”, “screw”, “crap”, “piss”, “bitch”, “damn”, and “ass.”

Rookie Blue is not recommended for viewers under age 18.
