Cops’ familiar documentary format has not changed in last twenty-one seasons. The show’s camera crews follow police as they respond to actual calls. Footage often includes police chases, arrests of prostitutes and drug dealers, illicit drugs and paraphernalia, domestic disputes, drunkenness, brawls, and the like.

The violence on Cops is not only explicit but also real. Profanity ranges from mild swearing to bleeped language. Sex is not depicted, but prostitution is occasionally the cause for arrest.

Cops is not recommended for viewers under age 18.
