Returning for its third season, NBC’s hit singing competition is hosted by Carson Daly and features artists Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton as judges and coaches to aspiring singers. Each coach selects a team member based solely on the singer’s voice. The team members then battle against one another, with the winners moving on to the knockout rounds, and the losers either going home or having a judge “steal” them for his or her team. In the “knockout” rounds, contestants are paired with a teammate, yet individually perform a song of his or her choosing. Each coach then makes a final decision on which member goes home or stays for the live performances during which the television audience has the opportunity to vote for their favorite team member. At the end, the contestant who receives the most votes will be “The Voice” and win a recording contract. Christina Milian serves as the show’s social media correspondent. Special guest advisors include Mary J. Blige, Rob Thomas, Billie Joe Armstrong, and Michael Bublé.
Sex is not depicted in the show, but often sexual innuendo and references are reflected in the banter among the judges and contestants, as well as the suggestive lyrics in the songs that the contestants perform. Also, judge Christina Aguilera has a tendency to wear cleavage-revealing tops. Language is problematic, with judges often using bleeped f- and s- words, “screw,” “ass,” and “damn.” Violence is not a problem for the program.
The Voice is not recommended for viewers under age 14.
