After a breakup, quirky “new girl” Jess moves in with three male roommates who attempt to steer her through her post-break-up malaise, in the process forging close friendships. Her new roommates include jaded, lovelorn bartender Nick, chauvinist Schmidt, and Winston, a socially inept former basketball player with anger issues.
Sex is the show’s main problem, with many prolonged references to sex and anatomy. In one episode, Jess drives to her boyfriend’s apartment with only a trenchcoat to cover her naked body, discussing her sex life with a friend via cell phone while on the way. Other episodes have included stories about Jess seeing her roommates naked, and discussions of sexual relationships. Language is also problematic. A running joke involves a “Douche Bag” jar, which Schmidt pays into whenever he says something “douche-y.” Violence is not a problem for the program.
New Girl is not recommended for viewers under age 14.
