This reality series focuses on the wild nightlife at The Catalina, a hotel on Miami’s South Beach. Owner Nathan prefers partying with guests instead of supervising his employees, while hotel manager Stephanie and restaurant manager Morgan are more down to earth and take care of the financial side of the business. The program also showcases the hotel’s staff of bartenders and front desk workers who drink on the job, hit on guests, and flirt shamelessly with each other.
Language on the program is adult, involving bleeped f-, d-, and s- words, as well as “hell,” “damn,” “balls,” “bitch,” and “ass.” Sexual content includes multiple references to “horny” people, anatomical references, calling women “sluts,” and. Visual sexual content included a couple men making anatomical sight-gags at the pool with a pretend penis ring toss, a male exotic dancer thrusting his crotch in bar patrons’ faces, two women removing their tops on the beach (breasts obscured by black bars), a man jumping off a yacht in the nude, and pixilated penis-shaped beer bottle tops. Violence has not been an issue in the first part of the season, but there is a chance that the drunken behavior could lead to heated arguments or even physical altercations.
The Catalina also contains much alcohol use and sends the message that drinking on the job, swimming while drunk, and crossing lines of sexual propriety with strangers are all acceptable behaviors free of consequence. Parents are strongly cautioned about the negative messages children may receive from this program.
The Catalina is not recommended for viewers under age 18.
