Now in its 19th season, supermodel Tyra Banks’ reality series America’s Next Top Model follows young women who aspire to be fashion models. Selected by Banks to live together and compete in a series of tasks related to runway walking, make up, hairstyles, and fashion trends, they also take part in elaborate photo shoots and appear before a panel of judges, with one aspiring model eliminated each week. On the current season, all the contestants are college students. The winner receives a modeling contract and other prizes that give her national exposure.
This series centers on the drama of women living in close quarters and competing for a coveted prize. There are often arguments and frustrations that arise. This can result in screaming matches and lots of swearing. Foul language is very common this season including bleeped c-, f- and s- words, “bitch,” “ass” “hell,” and “damn.” Sex is sometimes discussed, including discussions of virginity, homosexuality, teen pregnancy, and other activities. In the past, there have also been sexy photo shoots in the nude or in lingerie. In the premiere, one of the models had her backside pixilated when she walked down the runway. In another episode, the women posed nude in a photo shoot; their breasts and lower halves were shown (blurred) dozens of times. At the same shoot, a male model touched them in a sexual way, and his lower half was blurred as well, suggesting sexual content. Violence is normally not a problem for this series, although sometimes during heated arguments women have thrown things at each other and become aggressive.
America’s Next Top Model: College Edition is not recommended for viewers under age 18.
