Many critics claim that television is currently in the midst of a new “Golden Age.” Those who are not enthralled with ultra-violent programming like The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones,
or American Horror Story

TV critic Mary McNamara makes a compelling case that one recent TV series actually did push TV toward a “new Golden Age” – Downton Abbey, aired on PBS, which proved “a broad demographic crossover was still possible for a scripted drama with a PG rating.”
