Feeling Fatigued by R-Rated Movies? You’re Not Alone.

Rmovies With the news that a number of R-rated movies bombed at the box office last weekend, there is speculation that audiences are growing weary by the number of more adult movies currently showing in theaters. Variety reports: “There’s been a glut of R-rated movies starting from the first of the year,” said Rory Bruer, Sony’s worldwide distribution chief. “I think there’s some R-rated fatigue.” Perhaps, dear reader, you feel the same. After all, you’re probably not going to take your tween to see Fifty Shades of Grey. Now, contrast that with new evidence that PG-rated movies do better at the box office. The Wrap reports: Movies with PG-13 ratings like “The Hunger Games Mockingjay” and “Guardians of the Galaxy were by far the biggest moneymakers for Hollywood last year, but films with PG ratings such as “Maleficent” and “The LEGO Movie” on average delivered more bang for the buck. Once again, this shows the power that family audiences have. Families want movies that the entire family can enjoy together without being barraged by sex, violence, or foul language. We anticipate that the new adaptation of Cinderella, opening in theaters this weekend and which is rated PG, will give families a welcome respite from R-rated films. Hollywood, take note.
