In Midst of Hollywood Sexual Harassment Furor, Fox Promos Sex Harassment "Comedy"

Sexual harassment is still big laughs on Fox. Since the accusations of sexual harassment and rape against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein first appeared in The New York Times last month, the floodgates have opened. On a daily basis, the Hollywood trade press is filled with new allegations of past sexual harassment by some of Hollywood’s biggest names. The entertainment industry is facing a meltdown of historic proportions over the issue of women being sexually harassed in the workplace…but those in charge of Fox’s broadcast TV network apparently haven’t got the memo. During the World Series, Fox showed promos for its upcoming “comedy” LA to Vegas. In the promo, “humor” is based on an airline pilot sexually harassing stewardesses, crudely talking about the “cock-pit,” along with references to drinking and drug use. Men sexually harassing women in the workplace used to be commonplace on TV comedies, from M*A*S*H to Cheers and beyond. Today, most of Hollywood is realizing that the time for that has passed. But at Fox, finding humor in harassing women is still business as usual.
