Resources to Help You and Your Family

These are uncertain and challenging times. With schools shutting down in response to concerns about containing and stopping the spread of COVID-19 and businesses encouraging employees to work from home, many parents are struggling to find a way to keep their kids occupied while also keeping them safe and out of harm’s way so they can do their work.

We are here to help you.

We’ve assembled for you some suggestions for family-friendly entertainment while you’re stuck at home.

• Focus on the Family has assembled a “Coronavirus Entertainment Survival Guide” with suggestions for family-friendly entertainment.
• Focus on the Family has also put together a handy reference guide for what’s streaming for families in March.
• Columnist Michael Foust has put together a list of new family-friendly shows on Netflix, Disney+, Hulu and Amazon Prime as well as his recommendations for the 10 Best Family Friendly Films of 2019
• And if you’ve found a movie your family is interested in, but you’re not sure if it is family-appropriate, Movie Mom Nell Minow’s movie reviews are a helpful resource.

If you’re looking for something more educational, a number of free resources are available to families during this time:

• Children’s book author Mo Willems will be hosting live-stream “LUNCH DOODLES!” Mondays at 1:00 p.m. ET (available for streaming online afterwards).
• College-bound kids at home? A number of universities are offering free online classes right now.
• A number of world-famous museums are making virtual tours available.
• You can tour a national park online
• Scholastic has made free educational resources and materials available online.

And if you’re looking to expand your online viewing options, but don’t have time to prescreen programs for content that might be problematic for your family, now is a good time to check out filtering services like Vid Angel and ClearPlay. These services apply filters on top of an existing streaming video subscription (like Amazon Prime, Netflix, or Vudu); and can be customized to your family’s sensitivities.
