PTC Seal of Approval This story of an actor who learns from his mistakes is a message of the importance of family, forgiveness, and faith. Gavin Stone is in a tough spot. The former child star of the beloved TV series Family Life, Stone was swept up in the Hollywood lifestyle of liquor, drugs, and selfishness. When one of his drunken parties goes too far, Gavin is ordered to perform community service at the Masonville Bible Church in his hometown. There, Gavin falls for Kelly, daughter of the pastor and producer of the church’s annual Passion play. His acting chops gain Gavin the lead role of Jesus; but Gavin takes his acting a step further, trying to play the part of a sincere Christian in order to attract Kelly. But over time, and even against his will, Gavin comes to respect the kindness and convictions of his fellow churchgoers, and he begins to move from acting the part of a Christian to becoming one – until his old manager offers Gavin a new TV series, and a return to the Hollywood lifestyle he secretly still longs for… The Resurrection of Gavin Stone is a positive, uplifting story which respects the Christian faith and shows the power of forgiveness and community in turning a person away from a negative past. The film contains no sex or foul language, and violence is only implied in the Passion play’s crucifixion scene (an actor is shown wearing stage blood, then having it washed off him). Religion is treated respectfully; while the members of the church are shown to have individual quirks, they are also portrayed as individuals of decency and integrity. For its timely message of the importance of family, forgiveness, and faith, the Parents Television Council is proud to award The Resurrection of Gavin Stone with the PTC Seal of Approval®. The PTC recommends this movie for viewers over age seven.
