LOS ANGELES (May 19, 2025) – The Parents Television and Media Council (PTC) celebrated the signing of the TAKE IT DOWN Act into law by President Trump today, saying that the new law will give victims – including children – of deepfake pornography and sexual abuse relief.
“On behalf of parents we commend President Trump for signing the TAKE IT DOWN Act into law. This law will help protect victims – including children -- of deepfake pornography by requiring tech and social media platforms to remove that content within 48 hours of notification. Of all the online threats to children, deepfake pornography might be the most insidious, because anyone – even children and teens who aren’t online or don’t use social media – can fall victim to it,” said Melissa Henson, vice president, Parents Television and Media Council.
Ms. Henson was invited to the bill signing at the White House, and remarked, “To witness the signing of the bill into law, along with families whose children have been victimized by deepfake pornography or sextortion, was bittersweet, but will serve as a powerful reminder of the difference people can make when they advocate for solutions that will protect future generations.”
