LOS ANGELES (December 4, 2024) – The Parents Television and Media Council (PTC) applauded the unanimous U.S. Senate passage of the TAKE IT DOWN Act that will help protect children if deepfake pornography is created of them, as tech and social media platforms will be required to remove that content within 48 hours.

“Kudos to the U.S. Senate for recognizing that children are harmed if they become targets of deepfake pornography and uniting behind the TAKE IT DOWN Act as a solution. The tech industry will be held responsible for removing explicit imagery within 48 hours of receiving a takedown request. And the act criminalizes the uploading of this sexual abuse – a strong and much-needed deterrent,” said Melissa Henson, vice president, Parents Television and Media Council.

“It is appalling that children are being targeted by classmates or other predators with sexually explicit imagery of themselves. This kind of abuse must end swiftly. The TAKE IT DOWN Act will ensure that there are consequences for abusers and tech platforms. We urge the U.S. House to also pass this crucial legislation.”
