LOS ANGELES (April 29, 2025) – The Parents Television and Media Council (PTC) commended the U.S. House for passing the TAKE IT DOWN Act that will help protect children if deepfake pornography is created of them, as tech and social media platforms will be required to remove that content within 48 hours.

“On behalf of parents everywhere, we are grateful that the U.S. House passed the TAKE IT DOWN Act that will help protect victims – including children -- of deepfake pornography by requiring tech and social media platforms to remove that content within 48 hours of notification. The act also criminalizes the uploading of this sexual abuse – a strong and much-needed deterrent. The TAKE IT DOWN Act will ensure that there are consequences for abusers and tech platforms,” said Melissa Henson, vice president, Parents Television and Media Council.

“Of all the online threats to children, deepfake pornography might be the most insidious, because anyone – even children and teens who aren’t online or don’t use social media – can fall victim to it. Using now-ubiquitous AI tools, bad actors can take something as innocent as a yearbook photo of a child or teen and use it to create the vilest pornographic images imaginable by putting the child’s face on an AI-generated body. We expect President Trump to sign this into law,” Henson said.
