LOS ANGELES (February 5, 2020) – The Parents Television Council commended YouTube for its announcementthat the company will fund content for kids focused on “character strengths” such as courage, compassion, gratitude, and more.
“We enthusiastically applaud YouTube’s announcement that it will invest $100 million for programming for children. It is particularly impressive that the new programming will center on themes based upon character strengths like empathy, teamwork and self-control. We thank YouTube and Google for this exciting development, and we call on the other major digital media platforms to do likewise,” said PTC President Tim Winter.
“Parents today face a tsunami of entertainment that is increasingly dark, increasingly violent, increasingly sexualized and increasingly profane. Sadly, this is true even for entertainment programming that is deemed appropriate for children. There is a dearth of entertainment options that provide uplifting, inspiring and educational content along while also employing high production values. YouTube is wise to make a move towards positive programming for kids.”
