LOS ANGELES (January 17, 2025) – The Parents Television and Media Council (PTC) applauded the re-introduction of the TAKE IT DOWN Act that will help protect children if deepfake pornography is created of them, as tech and social media platforms will be required to remove that content within 48 hours. The U.S. Senate unanimously passed this bill in the last legislative session.

“Every parent’s nightmare is that their child will become a victim of deepfake pornography. The TAKE IT DOWN Act is a lifeline for children as it will hold the tech industry responsible for removing explicit imagery within 48 hours of receiving a takedown request. Just as there must be consequences for those who abuse children in this way, there must also be accountability for tech platforms to be part of the solution,” said Melissa Henson, vice president, Parents Television and Media Council.
