Tim Winter

President of the Parents Television and Media Council With more than 30 years in broadcasting, cable, internet and new media technologies, along with a law degree, Tim Winter brings a wealth of experience to his position as president of the Parents Television and Media Council (PTC). The PTC is a non-partisan education organization advocating responsible entertainment. He is passionate about protecting children from the harmful effects of graphic violence, sex, and profanity on children. He has been a fierce advocate for children and families during his 18+ year tenure at the PTC, frequently calling on the entertainment industry to be more responsible with the content it produces and markets to children. Mr. Winter has been fighting the growing trend of Hollywood’s sexualization of children in entertainment. To help combat negative and harmful representations of girls in the media, Mr. Winter helped launch the PTC’s “4 Every Girl” Campaign that advocates for healthier media images that value, respect, empower and promote the true value of every girl. Mr. Winter spent 15 years with the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) serving in numerous management capacities for the media conglomerate in Los Angeles, New York and Europe. His work experience included network broadcast operations; program production; international and domestic cable; digital media; and the owned-and-operated television station, KNBC. He also participated in the creation of MSNBC, the cable and online news joint venture with Microsoft Corporation. Mr. Winter worked at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), where he led the studio’s Interactive Division and its online and video game publishing ventures. He was also president and chief operating officer at FasTV, Inc., an internet media company. Prior to his work with the PTC, he was the co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Desktop.TV, a high-tech media firm that delivered live-streamed broadcasts of business-oriented cable programming to the enterprise marketplace. Mr. Winter started as executive director of the PTC in 2003 and took over as president in 2007 when the PTC’s founder and former president, Brent Bozell, stepped down. Mr. Winter has testified before the Congress on the issues of media violence and media ownership consolidation; and before the Federal Communications Commission. He is a sought-after speaker and interview subject. He can often be seen on television news circuit, including CNN, MSNBC and Fox News; he is frequently cited by the nation’s leading newspapers such as USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, and he is a regular source for numerous industry publications such as Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and Broadcasting & Cable. Born and raised in northern Virginia, Mr. Winter graduated from Principia College with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles and is a member of the State Bar of California. He served as a Commissioner of the Pasadena Community Access Corporation (Pasadena Media) for six years, including multiple years as its Treasurer. He and his wife reside in the Los Angeles, California, metropolitan area where they enjoy watching LA Kings Hockey and trying to play as much golf as they’re accused of.

Susan Wales

Advisory BoardA born storyteller, author Susan Wales, wife of producer Ken Wales, grew up in the South in Alabama and Georgia. Wales is a popular speaker throughout the United States. A partner in Gaga Animation with Jeff Holder, former vice president of animation of SONY, she has also spoken internationally on storytelling in production in India and France. Wales co-authored Faith in God and Generals and The Amazing Grace of Freedom, companion books for the films Gods and Generals and Amazing Grace. Best known for her Match Made in Heaven series with longtime friend Ann Platz, also Guideposts books, Susan wrote an etiquette book, Social Graces and an entertaining book, The Pleasure of Your Company with Platz. With over two-dozen books published, Wales also wrote the popular political thriller series, The Chase, The Replacement and The Candidate. Her next novel, which will be released in 2008, is a Hollywood thriller. A frequent guest of radio and TV, Susan co-hosted a weekly radio talk show with LA disc jockey, Steve Boalt on KFSG for two years in Los Angeles. Wales is a contributor to magazines and her stories are also published in Chicken Soup for the Soul, Chicken Soup for the Father’s Soul and Stories of Heart. A producer for various TV interview show segments, Susan is also the Executive Producer of the Annual MOVIEGUIDE® Awards. She assisted her husband Ken, the Executive Producer of the CBS series based on Catherine Marshall’s book, Christy. The Wales live in Pacific Palisades, California. Their daughter Megan and granddaughter Hailey live in New Orleans, where their son-in-law is an All Pro NFL player with the New Orleans Saints.

Pat Trueman

Advisory BoardPat Trueman is the former Chief of the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Criminal Division, U. S. Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. from 1988 to 1993. While there, he supervised the prosecution of child sex crimes, child pornography, and obscenity. He managed an office twenty of prosecutors and support staff, and worked with the nation’s ninety-three United States Attorneys to initiate and coordinate federal prosecutions. During his 33 years as a lawyer, he has litigated cases at all levels of the federal system, including in the United States Supreme Court. He is an advisor to many municipalities on First Amendment law and has helped draft sexually oriented business ordinances to end or curb the impact of pornography shops, strip clubs, and related businesses. He is a legal consultant to non-profit organizations on child sexual exploitation, sexual trafficking, pornography, indecency, and related matters. He serves as counsel to the Paul & Lisa Program of Connecticut, whose mission is to provide prevention, early intervention, and advocacy for children, teens, and adults who have been sexually victimized through commercial exploitation. He special counsel to the Alliance Defense Fund of Arizona, a national public interest law firm, where he works as a legal expert on obscenity, indecency, pornography and the protection of communities from sexually oriented businesses. He served as counsel to the Guardian of Angels Foundation in Colorado, which targets child sex abuse and as law enforcement director for Capitol Cities Partners, Washington, D.C., on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Rescue and Restore Campaign advising federal and state law enforcement officials on human trafficking. He has served as counsel to American Family Association, Family Research Council, and Morality in Media. He has trained the public, police, prosecutors, and judges on child sex abuse, child pornography, obscenity, and sexual trafficking. He has published and lectured on the effects of television sex and violence on the family. Mr. Trueman has served as chief of staff to a Member of the United States Congress and, in his legal practice, has represented clients needing appropriations and other help from Congress. From 1976 to 1982, he was Executive Director and General Counsel to Americans United for Life, a national public interest law firm in Chicago. He lives just outside Washington, D.C., is married to Laura Clay Trueman, and has three children, Patrick, Claire, and Elizabeth.
