Miley Cyrus Coming to The Voice

Will NBC’s hit show still be family-friendly? For eleven seasons, The Voice has been a relatively clean entertainment staple for millions of families across America. All that may soon change. Tonight, former Disney star Miley Cyrus makes her debut on The Voice as coach and advisor, along with Alicia Keys. They will be replacing Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams. Alicia Keys has made her mark on the entertainment industry with class, style, dignity, and pure talent. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of Miley Cyrus. Despite the fact that legions of young girls followed her every move from her break-out role as the star of Disney’s Hannah Montana, she has squandered the built-in goodwill and trust of parents around the country with her shock-and-awe antics in recent years. From singing about party drugs, pretending to masturbate on stage with a giant foam finger, and gyrating against the crotch of Robin Thicke at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, to her frequent and flagrant endorsement of pot-smoking, to her nearly-nude hosting of the 2015 VMAs, Miley has not only not shied away from controversy, she has openly courted it. It is our sincere hope none of this behavior crosses over to the family-friendly talent competition that is The Voice, and that the focus of the show will remain, as it should, on the remarkable talents of aspiring young performers, rather than on the controversy-courting behavior of one of the judges. We hope that The Voice can still be relied on to provide families with a respite from the endless encroachment of sex-laden dialogue, foul-mouthed characters, and graphically violent dramas that saturate the rest of the prime-time schedule. If you have the ability to record or DVR The Voice, you may wish to watch a delayed playback or preview episodes featuring Cyrus before allowing your children to watch.
