PTC Applauds Carol Burnett Winning Mark Twain Award

Top TV comedienne Carol Burnett was honored last week with the Mark Twain Award, the Kennedy Center Honors award devoted to humor. As star of The Carol Burnett Show, Ms. Burnett brought clean, family-friendly humor into homes every Saturday night from 1967 to 1979. Carol BurnettNor has the star abandoned her convictions. Commenting about today’s so-called “comedies,” Ms. Burnett remarked, “I’m getting a little tired of everything having to do with sex and bathroom humor. It’s almost like you have teenagers in a locker room writing a sitcom. They’re cheap laughs. It’s not clever writing.” As a champion of both comedy and decency, the PTC thanks Ms. Burnett for her long history of pleasing audiences, and congratulates her on her well-deserved honor.
