The Top 100 TV Shows of All Time – according to Hollywood. Recently, The Hollywood Reporter released an article in which current Hollywood producers, writers, and executives ranked what they believe are the Top 100 TV programs in history, "the programs people in Hollywood hold nearest to their hearts." The list says much about the beliefs and priorities of those in charge of the entertainment industry today. In brief, Hollywood believes that: Family Guy – with its jokes about child molestation and rape -- is better than The Brady Bunch, The Rockford Files,The Bob Newhart Show, and Sesame Street. Dexter – a graphically-violent series in which a serial killer was the hero -- was better than The Wonder Years, Downton Abbey, The Carol Burnett Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and All in the Family. South Park is better than both the original Star Trek and The Muppet Show. Sex and the City was better than Mary Tyler Moore, The Twilight Zone, and M*A*S*H. Game of Thrones is better than I Love Lucy. And the single greatest TV program of all time? Friends. Not included on the list at all were any of the dramatic anthologies from TV's Golden Age, like Studio One, Playhouse 90, or Omnibus. Also not included were Your Show of Shows, The Hallmark Hall of Fame, The Fugitive, The Andy Griffith Show, The Honeymooners, or ANY Western. Once, Hollywood was concerned with providing entertainment the American people wanted, and which could be enjoyed by the entire family. But increasingly, those in the entertainment industry make programs which reflect their own interests and preferences. With this list's demonstration of entertainment industry’s priorities, is it any wonder there is so little for families to watch together today? For the complete list, click here.
